On Saturday 7th June, two very talented swimmers from year 6 travelled to London to compete in the prestigious IAPS Swimming Finals, joining hundreds of the best young swimmers from independent schools across the country.

Having qualified through the earlier rounds, our pupils earned their places among an elite field of competitors, and the finals promised to be a true showcase of speed, skill, and determination. The atmosphere inside the London Aquatics Centre was electric, with pupils, coaches, and families all coming together to celebrate the highest level of junior swimming.

Throughout the day, the BGS swimmers delivered outstanding performances in their individual events. First up was Elizabeth (Year 6) in the 50m breaststroke she qualified in 15th place with a 44.84 swim from the qualifying rounds. Elizabeth had an amazing swim and managed to achieve 7 places higher in London, qualifying for the final where she finished 8th in a time of 41.82. This is an amazing achievement and a huge personal best time. Next up was Florrie (Year 6) in the para event. She swam 25m frontcrawl and achieved the second fastest time out of all of the para-athletes, which was also a fantastic achievement.

Mr Castro (Head of Swimming) said: “To reach the IAPS Finals is a huge achievement, they both rose to the occasion brilliantly. Their hard work in training, their composure under pressure, and their constant support for each other was wonderful to see. They should be incredibly proud and both have very exciting swimming careers ahead.”
