By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)
This week in Year 3, we launched our new Unit of Inquiry, Human choices impact the natural world, with a powerful picture showing a beach covered in debris. This image really got us thinking: What happened here? Why is there so much rubbish on the beach? Who made these choices?
Using this picture as our provocation, we worked in groups to sort different pictures and actions into categories like sustainable or not, natural or human-made, and helpful or harmful. We looked at everyday things, plastic bottles, leftover food, metal water bottles, trees being planted, and asked ourselves: Is this helping the Earth or harming it?
The activity sparked brilliant conversations and questions. Some of us were surprised by what we discovered, like how eating strawberries in winter might not be the best choice for the planet!
This task helped us understand that even small choices can have a big impact. It set the stage for us to explore how we can take action, work together, and make kinder choices for the Earth.
