By Mr Thurston (Geography Teacher)
The Geography Department would like to congratulate Charlotte Holden (Year 8) on receiving a Certificate of Merit in the Young Writers competition for her original piece of creative writing. Her poem, The Ruin, has also been selected for publication in a Young Writers anthology.
Charlotte reflected: “I am very excited about being chosen for publication in the book Poetry Escape – A Whisper Of Words. The topic of the poetry competition was writing about something you might have wanted to change in society. Something I am passionate about is the rainforest, and how awful the destruction of it is. In my poem, The Ruin, I write about how the rainforest is being taken over by humans and infrastructure. I was inspired by a poem I wrote in a piece of Geography homework.”
We are so pleased that Charlotte’s creativity and commitment have been recognised in this way. It is encouraging to see how ideas explored in class at BGS continue to inspire and inform our students beyond the classroom.
We look forward to seeing how Charlotte continues to raise awareness about the rainforest and to follow her ongoing interest in this important issue. Well done, Charlotte.
