We’re incredibly proud Year 8 athlete Emily Elphick, who brought home three gold medals from the County Athletics Championships on Sunday 11th May at the Bedford International Athletic Stadium.

Representing Bedford and County AC, Emily set a new county record in the javelin with an outstanding throw of 38.91m – more than 3m further than her previous best. She also achieved personal bests in the high jump (1.45m) and shot put (8.91m).

At the start of the new athletics season in March, Emily moved up to the U15 age group (from U13 last year). Following her performance at the weekend, she is now ranked third in the UK for javelin at U15. Her throw of 38.91m also met the qualifying distance for the national schools event this summer, and she is hoping to be selected to represent Bedfordshire.

Emily said: “I had a great time on Sunday and was so pleased to be able to get a new PB in javelin and shot put. I am looking forward to further opportunities over the rest of the season.”
