Last Friday (2 May) was the official handover from the outgoing Girls' Leadership Group (GLG) in the Upper Sixth to the incoming GLG in the Lower Sixth. This handover was marked by an afternoon of team-building activities at Cople Fields.
Incoming Head Girl, Nawaal Qazi, reflected on the day: “The GLG team building day is a yearly tradition that tasks us with the challenge of budgeting and producing an event as a team. It’s both a celebration of the outgoing GLG’s year and a passing of the mantle to the new GLG. The planning was hectic and involved a lot of coordination, organisation and overcoming obstacles, but the day ran smoothly.
“One of the highlights was definitely the inflatable games that we played together, particularly whack-a-mole, which left me winded for the rest of the day! Set-up was a breeze (thanks to our prior planning) as we laid out floral décor and an array of different foods – including pasta salad, chicken skewers and a number of appetisers. I was especially intrigued by what appeared to be a fancy Red Leicester cheese!
“Overall, we enjoyed radiant sunshine that left us tanned, delicious food that left us full, and reminiscent talks that left the old GLG nostalgic and the new GLG excited.
“We learnt many valuable lessons through hosting independently, making it a demanding yet rewarding experience that captured the spirit of the year ahead.”
Deputy Head Girl, Molly Brierley, added: “Friday was a great day in the sun where we were all able to get to know each other better and spend time together before we stepped into our roles on the GLG. I loved the 3D football game, and once we had set up lunch, the tables looked amazing! I am really excited about the year to come, especially after such a lovely day together.”
