Junior School

Mrs Copp (Deputy Head of Junior School)

During this term, Year 6 have studied the theme of Remembrance through poems from World War l. Reading poetry by Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brook and John McCrae, the girls explored the ways soldiers communicated with their loved ones.

After analysing the poetry, the girls then wrote either their own poems or a letter. They considered the events behind Remembrance Day and the service and sacrifice of men, women and animals during times of war or conflict. They have also compared the ongoing sacrifices people make in today’s COVID crisis and our responsibilities as citizens to serve and support others. Their poetry and letters from the trenches show real empathy with the soldiers of World War l.
