What an adventure it has been!
After months of dedication, creativity and hard work, Year 6 proudly presented Stuart Paterson's adaptation of Treasure Island in three fantastic performances on Thursday 4th, Friday 5th and Saturday 6th June.
The journey began back in January, when cast and crew first gathered for rehearsals after school every Monday and Thursday. Since then, pupils have shown remarkable commitment, giving up their time week after week to learn lines, develop characters and bring Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of pirates, treasure maps and high-seas adventure to life. Isla W who played Dr Livesy said: “It was really fun and I feel like I made a lot more friends. When I performed it felt so magical because it felt like I was really in the world where the play was set.”
Audiences were treated to an exciting production packed with memorable performances, dramatic action and plenty of humour. The cast embraced the challenge of telling this much-loved story, creating believable characters and transporting audiences from the Admiral Benbow Inn to the distant shores of Treasure Island itself. Victoria N who played Ben Gunn commented: “Treasure Island was really amazing. Everyone had a special part in it, even if they were in the ensemble. I enjoyed being Ben Gunn, especially being obsessed with cheese!”
What made this production especially impressive was that it was not only the actors who took centre stage. Behind the scenes, our talented student technical team took responsibility for every aspect of production. Set construction, props, costumes, sound and lighting were all planned and operated by pupils, whose professionalism and creativity helped transform the Studio Theatre into a world of adventure and intrigue. Their hard work ensured that every scene change, sound effect and lighting cue ran smoothly throughout all three performances.
Productions of this scale are always a team effort, and Treasure Island was no exception. The commitment shown by both cast and crew demonstrated the value of perseverance, collaboration and mutual support. Pupils developed confidence, problem-solving skills and friendships while working towards a shared goal. Rebecca M who was part of the ensemble reflected: “It was so much fun to do it with everyone, I really enjoyed it. I hope next year there will be something like it again.”
The enthusiastic response from audiences across all three performances was thoroughly deserved. Parents, staff, friends and members of the wider school community were full of praise for the quality of the performances and the professionalism shown by everyone involved. Ella M who played Dick said: “It was really fun because there was lots of different language to learn and lots of different areas to be in and perform in, it was very interesting and imaginative because of how different it was to real life and how it was set in the past.”
