By Ms Emberson (Drama Teacher)

Our Years 7 and 8 students have been working hard rehearsing for our upcoming performances of Matilda Jr. This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Our talented cast of over 60 young performers have been learning choreography, lines and songs for several weeks now. The high standards of acting, singing and dancing has been really impressive.  Now the set and costumes are coming together to really give the 'wow' factor to what looks set to be four outstanding performances. You can feel the excitement building all-round the Drama Department.

Nyah W (Year 8) reflected: “Knowing that I’m going to step onto a stage as the title role in Matilda Jr is a dream come true. It is my dream role and I’m really grateful for being a part of this production. Every rehearsal is always full of energy, fun and excitement. And the cast is absolutely fantastic, I couldn’t think of a better one. I feel a mix of pure joy and focused determination, knowing that I get to tell this story of bravery and standing up for what’s right. I just can’t wait to perform in front of an audience who is probably as excited as I am!”

Jess D (Year 7) added: “Matilda Jr is giving me so much confidence it allows me to perform with the Year 8’s. The afterschool and lunchtimes are really fun and they're going really well. The show so far is doing amazing. Thank you Matilda Jr teachers and cast for making this show possible.”

Siena G (Year 7) said: “I have really enjoyed taking part in Matilda Jr, it’s been such an exciting experience to take part in and be a part of. And it’s really helped me with my singing and group work, and I absolutely can’t wait for the show. It's going to be so much fun and a really great learning experience. And it’s choreographed so well it’s going to be a great show.”

Performances will be Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July at 7pm, and Saturday 4th July at 2pm and 5pm. Tickets will be on sale after half term.
