A Celebration of Dance

Whole School Performing Arts

By Miss Bream (Dance Teacher and Coordinator of Co-Curricular Dance)

Last week, our dancers from both the Junior and Senior School shone in our biennial performances of Let’s Dance.

The stimulus of each piece of choreography had art as its starting point and our teachers imaginatively crafted their choreography to depict, develop and interpret their chosen work of art or image.

With all syllabi work on hold since October half term, our students worked hard and with admirable commitment to prepare for our performances. Along the way they gained a wealth of experience to learn complex pieces of choreography and most of all they had lots of fun. Their energy and enthusiasm was inspiring to watch in every performance. The journey also gave students a wonderful opportunity to work collaboratively with their peers within the wider school community. I am very proud of our student’s efforts, achievements and talents.

Mr Marks (Director of Drama and Dance) said: “What a joy it has been to witness first-hand the work of all our talented dancers and teachers across the Junior and Senior Schools in a celebration of the wide range of genres and styles of dance that we offer at BGS.

“The audience were charmed and amused with a plethora of highly accomplished pieces, each thematically linked to a famous painting. I was thrilled when I made the connection between the image of Henri Matisse's La Danse and the beautiful image created by the older students, but I was equally as entertained by the cheeky cats from the Junior School. The whole evening was brought together with costumes designed and made by staff and students for a truly whole school event. Thanks to everyone for your ongoing support of the Performing Arts.”
