Ours Years 9, 10 and Lower Sixth drama students were thrilled to get to see Into the Woods performed at The Bridge Theatre before it finally finishes its extended run of performances.
This show won numerous awards in the recent Olivier Awards and received rave reviews across the board. The show is a quirky retelling of well-known folk takes, such as Cinderella and questions the values of these original tales in an amusing and thought-provoking way.
I loved the response of the students, who were buzzing with enthusiasm for the show as we left to head home. The style of performance was so engaging and the ways in which they created these stories with stunning design elements will have been truly inspirational to our students, whom we encourage to engage with all the elements of theatre- Set, Costume, Lighting and Sound Design.
The lighting design especially was exhilarating, as the dappled sunlight crept through the haunting trees and built this atmosphere of a mysterious and magical place, where people search for their dreams. The Bridge Theatre itself is an exciting, relatively new, addition to the London Theatre Scene and I’d encourage all of you that love theatre to check out what they have on offer.
