On Wednesday evening, 50 Senior School students attended Nosferatu: A Haunted Reimagined at Cambridge Junction, an atmospheric and highly unusual piece of theatre.

Based on the original 1922 silent film Nosferatu, itself closely linked to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the production featured actors silently recreating the story, accompanied live by a nine-piece orchestra performing on stage. Over the past year, I have been working closely with the cast and composing the 75-minute musical score, so it was especially lovely that so many students were able to come and experience the production.

The audience was wonderfully enthusiastic, and several of the actors commented on how rewarding it was to perform to such an engaged and responsive group. They also enjoyed chatting with some of our students about the project after the performance.

While no-one was quite sure what to expect or how easy it might be to follow the story without any spoken dialogue, the response was overwhelmingly positive. There was even a request to stage a production at BGS! Perhaps next year…

Rosie Freear (Upper Sixth) added: “It was so fun watching Nosferatu - everyone enjoyed being able to see Mr Page and hear his wonderful music! Despite the lack of dialogue, the actors conveyed the story effectively and their use of lighting and costume was very clever. Thank you so much to Mr Page and the drama and music teachers for an amazing trip!”
