Last week, the Food and Nutrition Department was delighted to host another successful Parent and Daughter Cooking Session for our Year 7 students. Due to the popularity of the event, places filled extremely quickly, and it was wonderful to see so many families eager to take part.
Parents and daughters worked together to create an impressive three-tier lemon and blueberry cake. Students demonstrated a range of practical skills and great teamwork; they enjoyed telling their parents what to do and how to follow the routines in the classroom.
During the teacher demonstration, students were also asked questions about the food science behind the recipe, including the role of ingredients and the methods used in cake making. It was fantastic to see several students confidently volunteering answers and applying the knowledge they have developed in their Food and Nutrition lessons. Their enthusiasm and willingness to contribute really highlighted the growing confidence and understanding within the group.
Food and Nutrition lessons provide students with valuable life skills that build independence, confidence, creativity, and an understanding of healthy eating, food science, and practical cookery skills that they will use throughout their lives.
The feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how much they enjoyed the experience and valued the opportunity to spend dedicated one to one time with their daughters.
We are pleased to announce that another Parent and Daughter Cooking Session will be taking place after half term to allow more families the opportunity to get involved. We are already looking forward to another enjoyable evening of cooking, learning, and teamwork in the Food and Nutrition Department.
