Exploring Gaudí through VR

Sixth Form MFL

By Señora Plaza (Spanish Teacher)

In Monday’s Spanish lesson, our IB Lower Sixth students took a virtual trip to Barcelona to study Antonio Gaudí’s architecture. Using VR, they explored Park Güell, La Pedrera, and La Sagrada Família, experiencing the buildings’ curves, colours, and details in 360°.

This immersive approach helped students gain a better understanding of Gaudí’s use of nature, geometry, and symbolism, making the study of modernist architecture more engaging.

The activity connected directly to the IB Spanish curriculum, allowing students to explore Spanish culture, history, and language through art and architecture. They were able to analyse the buildings, reflect on their design, and discuss the cultural significance of Gaudí’s work, all in an interactive and memorable way.

At BGS we are always looking for ways to bring lessons to life. Using VR in this way allowed students to explore Barcelona’s architecture from the classroom, combining technology with hands-on learning to make the experience both memorable and enjoyable.
