This week, the Junior School has been celebrating Anti-Bullying Week, a key event in the BGS calendar that highlights the power of kindness and the importance of standing together.
The week began with a whole school assembly on Monday, where pupils reflected on this year’s theme, ‘Power for Good’. Together, we explored how each of us can make a positive difference through our words and actions, linking closely with our IB Learner Profile attributes - Caring, Principled, and Communicator.
To mark the start of the week, the whole school took part in Odd Socks Day, with corridors and classrooms filled with bright, mismatched socks, a joyful reminder that we are all unique and that our differences should be celebrated. The sight of so many smiling faces proudly showing off their socks perfectly set the tone for a week dedicated to positivity and inclusion.
Throughout the week, pupils enjoyed a range of kindness-focused activities to support both Anti-Bullying Week and World Kindness Day (Wednesday 13th November). A particular highlight was the ‘Secret Angels’ initiative, where each pupil was assigned a classmate to surprise with small, thoughtful acts of kindness. It was heart-warming to see the creativity and care behind these gestures from encouraging notes and helping tidy workspaces to sharing playground equipment and offering kind words when someone needed them most.
Across the Junior School, we witnessed countless examples of compassion in action: pupils helping to carry resources, holding open doors, inviting others into games, and thanking their teachers and peers for support. Many also wrote ‘Kindness Pledges’, promising to continue spreading positivity throughout the year.
The week concluded with moments of reflection, as classes discussed how kindness can create a ripple effect across our community. We hope that the spirit of this week celebrating individuality, empathy, and unity will continue to shine brightly throughout the year, ensuring every member of our BGS community feels valued, included, and supported.
