On Thursday 9th October, 45 students from Years 11 to Upper Sixth travelled to Berkhamsted to compete in the highly competitive Beds, Herts and Bucks County Lacrosse Tournament. This event brings together some of the strongest lacrosse schools in the country, and it was fantastic to see BGS fielding three senior teams, an impressive achievement given that many schools were unable to do the same.
The 3rd team faced an incredibly tough draw, coming up against high-quality opposition including Habs, St George’s and Berkhamsted. Although results didn’t go their way (0–3, 0–5, 0–5, 0–6), the team’s determination, spirit, and unity were outstanding. For many, this was their first senior competition, and the experience will undoubtedly prove invaluable as the season progresses.
The 2nd team had an excellent day, showing great structure, teamwork, and resilience throughout their matches. Their consistent performances earned them a superb 4th place finish overall, a testament to their effort and growing cohesion as a squad.
The 1st team produced some truly exceptional lacrosse, delivering notable victories over St George’s (4–0), Abbots Hill (8–1), Haileybury (4–2), Stowe (5–2), and finally a thrilling 3–2 win over Haberdashers in the 3rd/4th playoff. Their only defeats came against powerhouse schools Berkhamsted and STAHS, but BGS’s attacking flair, defensive discipline and relentless work rate saw them finish 3rd overall, the highest placing the school has achieved in a number of years.
The day was a fantastic showcase of BGS lacrosse talent, teamwork and spirit, from the Upper Sixth leaders setting the tone to the Year 11s making their senior debuts. Congratulations to all players on a brilliant tournament and an outstanding start to the season.
