Fresh from their practice expedition, 37 intrepid Year 10 students headed up to the White Peaks over the recent Bank Holiday weekend to showcase their skills on the qualifying expedition.
All students arrived with a full set of waterproofs and, with a couple of sun hats quickly sourced, we had a punctual departure. The routes were demanding but all groups rose to the challenge. Again, their support for each other was admirable and their assessors were impressed with their campcraft skills.
Ella Quirighetti (Year 10) reflected: “Silver Duke of Edinburgh was a great experience that I would recommend to all! It was a great way to work as a team whilst learning new skills such as navigation, camp skills, and lots of hill-climbing! I really enjoyed the beautiful views of the Peak District - especially Dovedale - and would love to go back again.
“We had excellent weather with sunshine across all three days, even though it was rather chilly at night. It was definitely a challenge but incredibly enjoyable and I am now wanting to complete the Gold award, or just more camping and walking in general.”
As always, I would like to thank our staff who give up their time to make these expeditions possible.
