Bedford Regatta, which took place on Saturday 10th May, is always looked forward to by local rowers. Founded in 1853, it brings competitive rowing to the picturesque River Great Ouse. Racing takes place through the heart of the town with races every two minutes. Competitors come from far and wide representing Schools, Colleges and Clubs.

The event continues to be one of the key social events in the Town’s calendar with parents, supporters and competitors enjoying the atmosphere and hospitality.

For Team BGS, 2025 saw over 70 athletes compete over the 1,200m course, a special mention should be made to Eloise Sanders and Crystal Walters who raced for the first time. Four crews made it to the semi-finals and one to a final.

Well done to the W4+ of Ellie Mullan, Emily Dyall, Bella Moretto, Eva Blake and Elizabeth Julyan who raced admirably and only lost their final by half a length.

It was fantastic to see so much BGS support on the riverbank, and I would like to take this opportunity, along with the rest of the Rowing Team, to say a huge thank you to everybody that came down and supported our crews, and to the Friends of the BGS Rowing Club (FBGSRC) and The Alumnae for keeping the delicious refreshments flowing.

We could certainly hear the ‘BGS Roar’ as we approached the embankment for the final stage of each race! A thank you also to our Year 7 and 8 stakeboaters, and any parent marshalls, who without their volunteering the regatta could not run as smoothly.
