Senior School

Holly Sanders and Sophia Baker (Lower Sixth)

At the end of last term, the Write On team launched the BGS 500 words competition. There were so many outstanding entries, which varied from some startling horror stories to a range of emotive poignant pieces about current problems in our society. After much debate, we decided that The Deep by Lily-Anne Hyem in 7LJS was the winner. We were all moved by her stunning descriptions of the ocean and the juxtaposing horrors of sea pollution. An evidently talented young writer is in the making!

Mrs Hoar, Challenge and Extend Co-ordinator, said: “Our Write On team are a dedicated, inspirational group of girls from Years 7 to the Lower Sixth. We meet every Tuesday to share work, edit submissions and plan future ideas. We are always looking for budding writers and embrace submissions in any genre, from poems and short stories to interviews and opinion articles. so come on girls, get writing!”

You can read Lily-Anne’s winning entry and all the runner up stories on our Write On blog here.
