Sixth Form Alumnae

As we approach our Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 6th November, 6:30pm to 8:30pm, we will be sharing a series of profiles highlighting recent BGS alumnae. First in the series is 2023 alumna Kennisha (Kenni) Mukiibi.

On Friday 17th October, during lunchtime, Kenni, who is currently undertaking a placement in a stroke and vascular department, kindly joined us online to speak to students from Years 10 to Sixth Form about the journey from Psychology to Medicine.

Whilst she rightly encouraged students who love the more traditional combinations of A Level subjects taken to apply for a Medicine degree to pursue these, she also spoke passionately about the importance of students finding the path and combination of A Levels that are right for them, noting her love of her Psychology A Level helped her to achieve the grades that made her current degree possible at the University of East Anglia.

Encouraging BGS students to seek advice from the excellent Mrs Whitlock (Head of Careers) in The Bridge, she explained how students are more likely to be successful in their applications if they enjoy their A Levels, as they are more likely to achieve the high grades that Medicine requires and they can speak enthusiastically about their studies. Kenni also spoke on the importance of gaining practice for interview scenarios, knowing why you want to be a doctor rather than one of the other caring professions in the NHS and on how her Psychology A Level has helped raise her awareness of the importance of empathy for the struggles some of her patients are facing. Our students really enjoyed the opportunity to hear from Kenni's and ask her questions, thanking her warmly for her advice.

To see how our students continue their journeys beyond BGS, join us at the Sixth Form Open Evening. Book here.
