The Alumnae Golfers had a fabulous day at The Berkshire Golf club Monday 1st June as part of the prestigious Silver Tassie competition.
Our four alumnae golfers were Fiona Neden (née MacKenzie, BHS 1983), Belinda Borneo (BHS 1985), Sally Olney (née Oakley, BHS 1976) and Lucy Scott (DAHS 2011), supported by Rhian Castell (née MacKenzie, BHS 1985).
The Alumnae team put in a really good performance, finishing as runners up and receiving some silverware. Additionally, Belinda and Lucy were awarded the best gross score on the blue course, on their half of the draw, scoring an impressive 46 points, to win an extra prize.
Sally reflected on the experience: “Great organisation and a fantastic day. There was such a lovely atmosphere and everyone was so welcoming and friendly to us ‘newbies’. Well done to our team and to Belinda and Lucy for your incredible score and extra prize.”
The Alumnae team played both the Club’s red and blue courses, which are widely regarded as two of the best courses in the British Isles, the competition is for teams of 2 pairs of golfers playing 4BBB handicap stableford. The competition is played over 18 holes with the winning team producing the best combined stableford score.
The Silver Tassie was founded in 1961 and is a ladies golf competition for alumnae of independent schools. Our heritage school, Bedford High School has been a past winner of the competition in 1965, 1967 and 1971. It was wonderful to return to the competition with such success and we look forward to returning next year.
