We are incredibly proud of our alumnae who continue to be changemakers in international cricket. This summer has been particularly special, with two former BGS students achieving major recognition in the sport.
Many congratulations to Izzy Gurney (2017), who has been recognised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as one of 53 women shaping the future of cricket ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. As Programme Manager and Safeguarding Lead at the MCC Foundation, Izzy has been honoured for her outstanding contribution to the game. She's received a prestigious purple chair at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, one of 53 seats revealed in Birmingham celebrating the diverse roles women hold in cricket since 1973. This lasting tribute recognises her impact on championing girls' cricket and her safeguarding leadership.
After leaving BGS, Izzy served as Secretary, Head of Junior Cricket, and Club Safeguarding Officer, designing and implementing a five-year Club Development Plan that has helped develop grassroots programmes.
Former BGS Sports Captain Flo Miller (2022) has also reached an exciting milestone. Her impressive form for Essex County Cricket Club earned her selection for England Women's A T20 squad against India this summer. Flo, a right-handed batter known as one of the best fielders on the women's cricket circuit, will compete in three T20s and three 50-over games across late June and early July.
Flo's journey since leaving BGS has been impressive. She recently signed a two-year contract extension with Essex Women, keeping her at the club until 2028. In 2024, she earned both Fielder of the Year and Player of the Year awards with the Sunrisers. This summer, she scored 139 runs at an average of 34.75 in 50-over cricket, including a best of 54 not out. She was also named Player of the Tournament for Eastern Storm earlier in her career.
We are incredibly proud to see our alumnae shaping the future of cricket at every level.
