Our Art Club has been busy turning their creativity into action this term, and a recent walk by the River Great Ouse provided the perfect opportunity to take their artistic skills outdoors.

One lunchtime, we set off on an art walk to explore the beauty of the river, capture it through a camera lens and gather inspiration for an upcoming art competition. The students enjoyed spotting interesting angles, shapes and colours along the riverbank.

During the walk, we focused on how to frame a photograph thoughtfully. We discussed how to position the river to lead the viewer’s eye through the picture, creating a sense of flow and movement. The girls experimented with crouching down, standing on tiptoes and trying different viewpoints to see how it changed the composition.

It was lovely to see everyone encouraging one another and sharing ideas, pointing out reflections in the water, unusual trees and hidden corners they might have missed before. Back at school, we collated the photographs and will continue working with them to create a piece for the competition.

The walk was a reminder that inspiration is everywhere. Sometimes we just need to step outside and look a little more closely. I was so impressed by the way the girls approached this project, and I am looking forward to seeing their final pieces.
