On Wednesday 4th February, Lower Sixth students and their parents gathered for the Bridge Careers Service’s Higher Education afternoon and evening, looking ahead to the coming 18 months.
Students attended a wide range of sessions led by representatives from universities including Glasgow, Birmingham, and Nottingham Trent. Topics covered everything from student life and course selection to an entertaining and highly practical workshop on writing personal statements.
Additional sessions supported those considering Oxbridge, creative pathways, or clinical courses. This year also saw a strong focus on degree apprenticeships, with students and later parents joining a session delivered by BGS alumna Sophie Scott (Class of 2022), who is currently completing a Business and Management Degree Apprenticeship with Mercedes-Benz. Sophie shared how she balances the academic and workplace aspects of her programme, offered insights into the application process, and discussed the advantages and challenges of apprenticeships compared with traditional university routes.
With an ever-expanding range of post-18 options available, the event proved highly informative for all who attended. Over the coming months, Lower Sixth students will continue to engage in a variety of activities to support their decision-making, including one-to-one meetings, career-focused assemblies, the UCAS morning, and course-specific workshops. We look forward to seeing where their aspirations will lead them next.
