Our International Women’s Day celebration, In Her Honour, on Saturday was a meaningful afternoon for the BGS community. Bringing together students, parents, staff and guests, the event celebrated the strength, resilience and achievements of women from many different walks of life; reminding us of the importance of sharing stories to inspire each other.

Throughout the afternoon we heard a series of personal reflections. Each story shared was different, yet equally meaningful, highlighting that the journeys of women are diverse, complex and powerful. The contributions were uplifting and thought-provoking, leaving the audience moved by the courage, determination and influence of the women who have shaped the lives of those speaking.

We were honoured to welcome a wonderful group of guest speakers who generously shared their stories and reflections, including Noreen Khan, award-winning TV host and radio presenter; Rory Reid, television personality; Hareena Mattu, businesswoman; Dhosjan Greenaway - Dalini, motivational speaker and UN Women UK CSW delegate; and Sanjit Chowdrey and Narvin Powar -  who spoke about their family business journey and the women who inspired them along the way.

We were particularly honoured to welcome Colonel Leona Barr-Jones DL VR FRSA, Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshire. Her presence added a real sense of occasion and significance to the celebration.

Throughout the event students from our community entertained the audience with beautiful performances whilst guests enjoyed a celebratory tea.

Events such as this are only possible thanks to the generosity, enthusiasm and support of many people. The PTA would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our speakers, performers and attendees who helped make the afternoon so meaningful.

In particular, I would like to thank Michelle McGuinness, Debbie Macey White, Zoe Bradford and Kirsten Robertson for their invaluable help and support in bringing the event together.
