Senior School Food and Nutrition

By Mrs Lovett (Head of Food and Nutrition)

Last week, the Food and Nutrition Department was delighted to host its very first Parent and Daughter Cooking Session for our Year 8 students, and what a success it was!

Parents and daughters worked side-by-side to create Glamorgan cheese ‘sausage’ rolls, learning how to make shortcrust pastry from scratch before preparing and shaping the savoury filling and baking their finished products. The classroom was filled with teamwork, laughter, and the irresistible smell of freshly baked pastry.

The feedback from parents was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how much they enjoyed the experience and how “surprisingly delicious” the finished rolls were! Several families have even said they plan to make the recipe again for Christmas guests, which is wonderful to hear.

Events like this give students the chance to showcase their growing independence and practical skills, while sharing the joy of food and learning with their families. We are incredibly proud of our Year 8 students for their enthusiasm, organisation, and confidence in the kitchen.

Following such a successful first event, we are very much looking forward to running more parent and student cooking sessions in the future.
