Senior School

By Mrs Tyrell-Johnson (LRC Manager)

One of the greatest challenges faced in previous posts as a School Librarian is encouraging students to read. It is therefore a privilege and delight to support so many of our students here at BGS who love reading and are passionate about books.

Events such as World Book Day, The Yoto Carnegie Awards, The Costa Prize and Non-Fiction November allow the LRC is promote reading throughout the year, and it’s through these interactions, alongside borrowing habits and stock requests, that allows us to gain an insight into the books that excite the girls, and ignite a passion for reading.

Whilst there is no single style of novel that will be enjoyed by all, the titles highlighted here have been extremely popular in the last few months with library users. Many of these books have been turned into film and television series, and the creation of new seasons has led to a resurgence of interest in these books. If, as a parent, you have been looking for a suitable book for your Y7-Y9 daughter, especially for those girls who are struggling to engage in reading for pleasure, I hope you might enjoy these recommendations. You can search the entire LRC Collection using the Accessit app on your daughter's iPad, where you can view all the titles in our wonderful collection and reserve books of interest.

Finally, I would like to highlight three online resources that offer wonderful means of finding books that your daughter might like to read. We will not have access to all of the books highlighted on these sites, but it will identify themes, authors and genres of interest.
