“Ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourselves for a story of murder, greed, corruption, and treachery - all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts!”
Yes, the legendary Kander and Ebb musical Chicago is rolling into town, and BGS students have been working tirelessly since June to deliver what promises to be a truly spectacular production.
Last Sunday saw our first all-day rehearsal, with the 30-strong cast pouring their energy into soaring vocals, razor-sharp choreography, and dynamic staging. Act 1 is already coming alive with show-stopping numbers such as All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, and They Both Reached for the Gun. Now, the focus turns to Act 2, building towards a thrilling courtroom showdown.
Chicago masterfully blends high drama with biting comedy, and it has been a joy to watch the cast inhabit their characters and breathe life into this iconic story.
Adding to the excitement, the Assembly Hall will be transformed into a dazzling 1920s speakeasy for the four evening performances. The audience won’t just watch the show, they’ll be swept up in the atmosphere as the ensemble moves among them, bringing the action directly to their tables.
There is still much to do in the coming weeks, lines to learn, songs to polish, characters to deepen, and choreography to refine - but by opening night this production is set to be a sensation you won’t want to miss.
Performances run from Wednesday 19th - Saturday 22nd November, with tickets going on sale soon. We can’t wait to welcome you!
