Whole School Cricket

By Mr Mee (Assistant Director of Sport)

This term has been very positive for girls’ cricket at BGS, with over 100 fixtures played across all year groups. This is a record level of participation and shows the progress of our cricket programme.

A proud moment came when our Year 3 girls played their first fixtures, marking an important milestone and highlighting the future of cricket at BGS from the earliest years.

On Saturday 14th June, we made school history by fielding 12 Senior School teams in a full block fixture against Berkhamsted. The strong turnout demonstrated the depth of talent and enthusiasm among our senior players. We finished with wins in all of the B team games. It was a real celebration of school sport and reflected the commitment of students and staff.

Earlier this term, Upper Sixth First XI captain Rhiannon Douglass (Upper Sixth) had an impressive performance in a National Cup fixture. She reached her half-century with a six off the final ball of the innings before taking a hat-trick with the ball. It was a memorable day for her and the team.

Another highlight has been Olivia Fox (Year 11), who reached two notable milestones in the adult game. Playing for Ickwell Women’s 1st XI, she scored her maiden century, 114 not out from 83 balls, helping her team to victory. She then scored her first half-century, 62 runs, for Ickwell CC. These are believed to be firsts for a female cricketer in both Ickwell’s history and their league, which is an excellent achievement.

Beyond these individual successes, girls across all year groups have shown real commitment and progress. Many now play club cricket and represent their counties, reflecting the pool of talent at BGS. Although this is only our third year of fixtures, the cricket culture is growing steadily. Our facilities continue to improve, as do the skills and confidence of our players.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and supporters who have contributed to a positive and memorable season.
