Whole School Art & Textiles

By Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles)

Once again, we were able to open our studios for the annual Summer Show, a showcase to celebrate the amazing hard work and dedication of our Fine Art and Textiles Design students, and creative teachers and technicians.

The exhibition showcased work from Year 9 students in both disciplines, where we saw charcoal drawing exploring portraiture, ceramic sculptures linking to the theme of Identity, William Morris inspired design work and lino printed garments. The display of work stretched the length of the corridor and really showcased the up-and-coming talent we have at BGS.

Across the Art rooms, GCSE and A Level Fine Art students’ work came together as a fitting celebration of the hard work and innovation demonstrated by all students. Book work showed the creative journeys students had been on, developing their skills and concepts as their research developed, leading to striking outcomes, including approaches in drawing, printing, ceramics and sculpture.

Textiles Design students from Years 11, Lower and Upper Sixth inspired visitors with their exemplary handling of a wide range of materials, showcasing stunning bodies of work and beautifully creative outcomes under many themes, including Urban Decay and Overgrown. We are always so proud of our students’ achievements, and this year was no exception.
