Sixth Form Art & Textiles

By Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles)

Lower Sixth Fine Art students enjoyed a wonderful autumn drawing day by the river and at Priory Marina, making the most of the beautiful natural lighting last week (Tuesday 4th November). The day provided an excellent opportunity to explore a range of drawing techniques, from quick sketches and expressive mark-making to more detailed studies focusing on texture, perspective and surface. Students worked on capturing the tranquil atmosphere of the water, reflections and surrounding landscape, experimenting with pencil, pen, watercolour, and charcoal to convey mood and depth.

The stunning autumn colours and lighting offered superb inspiration, and the students produced a series of highly individual and sensitive responses. Many took creative risks, exploring composition and viewpoint in new ways. Back in the studio, the drawings will serve as the foundation for further research and development, leading into larger painting and ceramic outcomes that build upon the themes and visual language established during the day.

It was a rewarding experience that strengthened observational skills, encouraged experimentation and celebrated the beauty of working directly from nature; an excellent start to the students’ creative journeys this half term.
