Whole School Speech and Drama

Ms Smith (Visiting Speech & Drama Coordinator)

There were celebrations in the Speech and Drama department at the start of this term as the latest LAMDA examination results were received. Following three days of examinations from Tuesday 24 June to Thursday 26 June, students from Year 3 through to the Lower Sixth achieved excellent results. In total, 87 students were awarded Distinctions, while five students received Merits.

LAMDA examinations give students more than just results. They encourage confidence, creativity and communication, skills that extend well beyond the stage. Whether interpreting poetry, delivering a speech or performing a monologue, students are developing self-expression, resilience and poise. With higher-level grades contributing to UCAS points, LAMDA also supports academic progression, making it a valuable part of their education.

For the first time, Year 3 pupils, who take part in individual or duet lessons, completed Acting and Public Speaking examinations, a promising start to their Speech and Drama journeys.

This year’s achievements also provide a fitting tribute to Visiting Speech and Drama Teacher, Miss Burns, who taught 34 of the students and has recently stepped down from the department after 25 years of service. Her dedication and support have made a lasting impact on generations of learners.

Congratulations go to Danae Karavaggelis (Upper Sixth), who achieved a perfect score of 100/100 in her Speaking Verse and Prose Grade 8 Gold Medal. Danae joined Speech and Drama in Year 7 and has consistently balanced her preparations with a busy academic and co-curricular programme, including Music, Dance, CCF, MUN and DofE.

We would like to wish Danae, and all students completing their Speech and Drama journeys, every success for the future.
