On Thursday last week we welcomed back alumna Emily Baker who left BGS in 2019.

Emily attended Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. She was recruited to the university on a rowing scholarship, and now has an undergraduate degree in English and Psychology as well as a postgraduate degree in Business Management and Sports Management. During one of the years she spent in Texas, Emily was a graduate assistant coach.

Emily spoke with the students about the process of applying for a sports scholarship in the US, including when to start looking, what will be required and what happens when a coach contacts you. She also went into details about what life is like as a student-athlete in the US and the opportunities it can provide, including the opportunity to travel to various locations around the US for sporting fixtures.

The attending students found the talk to be incredibly informative and asked a number of questions about how to choose your University and get in contact with them, knowing what to study and, thinking ahead, what would happen if an injury arose.

We would like to thank Emily for coming in and giving invaluable information on an exciting possible path after leaving BGS.
