Whole School Open Morning

Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic idea – it is already shaping the world around us. In London, doctors are using an AI powered stethoscope that can detect heart conditions in seconds. The University of Bristol has launched one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers, Isambard AI, to accelerate medical research and climate modelling. Government departments are using AI to recover millions in fraudulent claims, while energy innovators are deploying AI powered drones to map heat loss from homes, helping to reduce bills and improve efficiency.

Education is responding too. The DfE has issued guidance on generative AI, highlighting the need to protect student data and academic integrity while recognising its potential to reduce workload. Across Europe, the new AI Act classifies many uses of AI in schools as “high risk,” requiring transparency and safeguards. These developments make it clear that AI is not a passing trend – schools must actively prepare students to use it wisely and responsibly.

At BGS, we are committed to giving students that advantage. Our Ethics Education programme encourages girls to consider big questions such as How does AI make decisions? Can it be biased? Who is accountable when it goes wrong? We have also introduced a Traffic Lights system to guide AI use in the classroom, providing a clear red to amber to green approach to responsible engagement. Looking ahead, we will publish a new AI in Education Policy to provide guidance for the whole school community and ensure safe, ethical and transparent practice that keeps pace with national and international expectations.

AI is already reshaping the world, and at BGS we believe students should be prepared to navigate it confidently. Join us at our Whole School Open Morning on Saturday 11th October to see our digital innovation in action.
