During the first week of the summer holidays, 20 excited GCSE Drama students and two even more excited Drama teachers embarked on the 2025 London Theatre Tour.
We arrived in London on the morning of 15th July and, after some free time and lunch on the South Bank, where some students made an impromptu visit to Tate Modern, we attended a fast-paced and challenging dance workshop with a former cast member from Cabaret. Our students really stepped out of their comfort zones as they worked on the demanding Fosse-inspired choreography.
Later that day we were treated to an outstanding and otherworldly performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream at Bridge Theatre in their unusual promenade venue, complete with aerial performances and interactive moments throughout the well-loved show. Afterwards, some students were lucky enough to get autographs and even a selfie with Emmanuel Akwafo, who played Bottom so hilariously.
Day two began with a backstage tour of the Royal Opera House. We were able to visit the props workshop, see the professionals at work, and enjoy a private viewing of an on-stage rehearsal of their forthcoming opera. Students were also thrilled to handle some of the exquisite handmade ballet costumes.
Finally, we attended an excellent performance of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, which was thought-provoking and highly moving.
It was an exhilarating and truly memorable trip, and we are already planning next summer’s visit, which we hope even more students will want to join.
Enya (Year 10) said: “We got to experience so many things with our friends. It was so fun!”
Olivia (Year 10) added: “It broadened my Drama repertoire and increased my passion.”
