Whole School Alumnae

This past half term, we were delighted to welcome back a number of our artistic alumnae to the Art Room, where they shared their experiences of working in the creative industries.

These sessions offered our students a valuable insight into inspiring opportunities within the arts.

First to visit was Anna Cook (2022), who has just graduated from The Arts University Bournemouth after studying Textiles. Anna spoke about the wide range of techniques she explored during her course, including working with wood, metals and fabric.  Anna hopes to pursue a career in interior design, creating bespoke pieces for commercial spaces, and she will be returning next academic year to spend time with our Lower Sixth Textiles students.

Next was Megan Clough-Ambridge (2016), who discovered her interest in the world of film when she visited the set of St. Trinian’s 2 at the age of 11. Megan went on to study Design for Film and Television at Nottingham Trent University and has since developed specialisms in prosthetics and creature design. She shared examples of her work, which includes creating horses, cows and body parts, and spoke about her involvement in films such as Napoleon and Captain Marvel. Her prosthetics have been worn by actors including Joaquin Phoenix and Benedict Cumberbatch.

We were also joined by Velvet Few-Wiegratz (2022), who has just completed a degree in Design for Stage & Screen (Costume), also at Nottingham Trent University. Velvet shared details of her course and brought examples of her creative work for students to explore. She answered questions from those interested in similar fields and will be starting a Masters this autumn in Illustration and Fashion Creative Pattern Cutting.

Our final guest was fashion stylist Lindsay Edwards (née Massie, DAHS 2003), who runs her own personal styling business. As well as supporting private clients, Lindsey also works in television, styling for shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, Traitors and EastEnders. She also holds degrees in Fashion Journalism and Education and writes for publications including Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia and Cosmopolitan. Lindsay set the students a creative task, designing a ‘Wimbledon outfit’ mood board using colour, texture and style to develop a complete look.
