On Thursday 1st May, a buzz of excitement filled the corridors as 150 students from Years 6, 7 and 8 stepped up to take on the UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge.
Organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), the Junior Maths Challenge is a prestigious national competition designed to challenge and inspire young mathematicians across the UK. With a mix of intriguing puzzles and brain-teasing problems, the challenge goes far beyond the typical classroom test. No calculators allowed, just logic, creativity and a serious love of numbers!
We are thrilled to announce that five outstanding students have qualified for the next round of the competition, a huge achievement given the tough national standard. Congratulations to Abhinaya Sivakumar (Year 7), Ruqayya Farzan (Year 8), Kiara Gouveia (Year 8), Hafsa Jawzy (Year 8) and Aaliyah Meghji (Year 8), who not only qualified but also earned the title of Best in School, an incredible feat!
And the success didn’t stop there. Among our talented Year 6 cohort, five students earned certificates for their impressive performances: Bella Maslin, Claudia Guri, Aisha Guy, Dua Nisar and Rachel Pepper. A special round of applause goes to Bella, who achieved a Gold certificate, an exceptional result for a Year 6 student.
In total, our mathematicians brought home 30 Bronze, 7 Silver and 7 Gold certificates, showcasing the strength and depth of mathematical talent across the school. Whether it was solving problems about Jasmin Paris’ success at the Barkley Marathon or how much chocolate a Swiss person eats (yes, really), our students approached the challenge with focus and a clear enjoyment of problem solving.
Well done to everyone who took part, we couldn’t be prouder.
