The MUN Society is busy at present preparing for the BGS MUN Conference which is taking place on Friday 13th June.
The day will see around 100 students from five schools debating topical issues with the aim of finding possible solutions through discussion and cooperation. As with all events this requires a lot of planning and each year the Lower Sixth MUN students take on the responsibility of organising the conference. Below is an outline of what the Secretariat have been doing.
Nawaal Qazi (Lower Sixth) commented: “BGS MUN challenges students to take the day off and step into the shoes of global diplomats, who collaborate on innovative, informed and inspiring solutions to the world’s most urgent issues. This year, our theme, The Price of Life, confronts one of the most provocative questions of our time: what is the true value of human life?
“From the earliest stages of existence to the end of life, questions of life and death dominate international discourse. Conflicts continue to claim countless lives, with their justifications tangled in layers of political complexity and moral ambiguity. At every turn, the worth of human life is debated, disputed and redefined.
“At BGS MUN 2025, we will confront these challenges head-on, exploring them through the different lens of each committee.
“Whether delegates emerge with a unified resolution or mirror the world’s enduring divides, our conference will provide a platform for critical dialogue, courageous debate and a profound exploration of what it truly means to value human life.”
Sonia Erwig (Lower Sixth) reflected: “As we prepare for our upcoming Model United Nations conference, the excitement is building. I’ve been working closely with fellow delegates, helping students to research their assigned countries and practicing speeches in committee simulations. Behind the scenes, our organizing team is making sure everything runs smoothly - from finalizing committee topics to setting up the venue.
“It’s inspiring to see everyone come together, whether they’re first-timers or seasoned participants. We’re all looking forward to an engaging and unforgettable conference that showcases diplomacy, debate, and teamwork at its best.”
Shazmin Rijal (Lower Sixth) said: “My main focus for preparing for our upcoming conference is designing the placards and certificates for the delegates, which was a nice change of pace compared to my A Level subjects. I look forward to helping and I hope everyone will enjoy their time in the conference.”
