By Miss Bream (Teacher of Dance)

Last week, students involved in our senior non-syllabus Dance classes, Year 7 Extend and Challenge, Year 11 and Sixth Form Divergent Dance, and our Year 9 Dance Club took to the stage for A Step Beyond, our biennial dance performance.

The focus of this year’s production was to highlight how performing on stage can build confidence and offer a space for self-expression. Several pieces explored the theme of how self-doubt and uncertainty are often states of mind that can be reframed or overcome.

Snippets within each dance were choreographed by the students themselves; composing is an important aspect of Dance training that provides creative opportunities for students to explore, develop and implement their own imaginative ideas, and this they certainly did!

We are incredibly proud of the commitment, energy and creativity demonstrated by all the dancers. Across both performances, our Hip Hop, Contemporary and Classical Ballet students brought confidence, flair and technical skill to the stage.

Mr Stratton (Director of Drama and Dance) said: “This year’s A Step Beyond was a brilliant example of the confidence and creativity that our students develop through performance. The courage they showed in expressing themselves and supporting one another on stage made it a genuinely inspiring evening.”

Mrs O’Rourke, Mrs D’Arcy, Miss Greco and I are very proud of all the students who took part and would like to thank them for their energy, enthusiasm and commitment.
