In the last week of the Easter Holidays (15th to 17th April), 38 students took part in their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) practice expedition, heading out to North Oxfordshire for a chance to improve expedition skills ready for the upcoming assessment in the Peak District.
It was really pleasing to see the participants engage in such a positive manner, supporting and encouraging each other within their groups and enjoying the kind weather conditions.
Eloise Sanders writes of her experience: “The Silver practice expedition was undoubtedly challenging. We all experienced highs and lows on the trip, but overall, it was a brilliant experience that will be remembered for a long time. We practiced our orienteering skills and learned how to work together in our groups.
“The routes were designed to simulate the hilly landscape of the Peak District to prepare us for the real expedition. While we were walking, we enjoyed some spectacular views of the Oxfordshire countryside; although the walking was a lot of fun, I think everyone would agree that the highlight of the day was always dinner. Despite some low moments on the trip: being chased by cows included, it was a brilliant experience, and I am really looking forward to the expedition this weekend.”
