Sixth Form Computer Science

By Dr Tansell (Head of Computer Science)

Before the Easter break, eight of our Sixth Form students had the opportunity to visit FESTO Robotics in Northampton, where they spent the day exploring automation, artificial intelligence and advanced robotics.

The visit provided an invaluable hands-on experience, offering students a chance to engage with FESTO’s innovative robotic systems and see how automation is transforming industries across the world. Through a series of interactive sessions, they gained a deeper understanding of the role robotics plays in sectors such as manufacturing, engineering and AI.

As part of the day, they also learnt about FESTO’s BEng (Hons) Engineering Degree apprenticeship programme. This offers an alternative, highly practical route into the field of engineering and automation, combining academic study with real-world industry experience.

Visits such as this reflect the Schools commitment to providing meaningful, real-world learning opportunities that enhance students’ understanding of technology and innovation. They play an important part in supporting our students as they consider future pathways and explore the wide range of opportunities available within STEM.

We are grateful to the team at FESTO Robotics for their time and hospitality, and for giving our students such a valuable and inspiring insight into this rapidly evolving area of industry.
