On Monday 28th April, we celebrated the unveiling of a Women In Innovation Award plaque awarded to Dr Dupé Burgess (née Odunsi, DAHS 2003) by Innovate UK for her services to women’s health.
In addition to Dupé, the celebration was also attended by Dr Odunsi (Dupé’s father), Hazel Biggs (Innovate UK), Mrs Gibson (Headmistress) and some of our Year 6 students.
Dupé is the founder of Bloomful, a healthtech company providing personalised support for women’s gynaecological health. Post school Dupé qualified as a doctor and while her medical career progressed successfully, she became increasingly frustrated with aspects of the healthcare system, particularly around womens’ health. This led Dupé to pivot into management consultancy before setting up her own virtual gynaecological health care service, Bloomful.
Innovate UK are the UK’s innovation agency, helping UK businesses grow through development and commercialisation of new products, processes and services. Women in Innovation was launched in 2016 to encourage more women to apply to Innovate UK funding opportunities.
The plaque is displayed on the side of Sixth Form House, overlooking our beautiful garden, an inspiring symbol for our Sixth Form students to see daily.
