By Miss Harris (Head of Rowing)
The busy and successful rowing season continued with our marquee event at the end of last term, the National Schools’ Regatta (23rd to 25th May 2025).
It was an outstanding weekend of racing for BGS Rowing, with a particularly proud moment for our WJ16 4+, who earned a well-deserved silver medal - the first for BGS since 2016. Congratulations to Rosemary, Zena, Kara, Rosie and Molly.
The event hosts more than 5,000 competitors, which is a real testament to the thriving junior rowing community in the UK and Ireland that produces an exceptionally high standard of rower. Competing in such an environment is both an honour and a challenge, pushing both rowers and coaches to develop further. This year’s event saw strong headwinds across the weekend which, unfortunately, cancelled a whole day of racing and impacted our Championship 4- and WJ16 2x.
Our crews’ results reflected the hard work and consistency of training that they have put in over the season. We are incredibly proud that all our first crews placed within the top 16 of their category and delivered their best performances, and our second J14 octo qualified into the B final, coming 9th overall.
A special thank you to our wonderful supporters. The Friends of Bedford Girls' School Rowing Club ensured that all BGS rowers and their supporters were well looked after in the BGS tent throughout the weekend.
We now look forward to the Star Club Regatta on home waters on Saturday 7th June. Please do come along and support our rowing crews!
