On Wednesday, we took part in our Biology A Level Core Practical 12 with a field trip to Cople Fields. The focus of the day was to carry out our own ecological investigations, applying key fieldwork skills and techniques in a real outdoor environment.
Our group worked independently to plan and conduct our chosen experiments, which ranged from investigating how light intensity affects the surface area of nettle leaves to exploring how the percentage cover of lichen changes with height from the ground.
We used a range of equipment including soil probes, quadrats, and measuring tapes to gather reliable data, all while navigating the varied terrain of the Cople Fields. The experience gave us the chance to work practically and scientifically outside the classroom, deepening our understanding of ecological sampling methods.
To top it all off, we were treated to refreshing ice lollies at lunch by our teachers, making the day not only educational but thoroughly enjoyable. Overall, it was an exciting and insightful experience that brought our biology studies to life.
