On Tuesday, our Girls’ Leadership Group (GLG) participated in an engaging Leadership Day to prepare and enthuse them for their year ahead.
Incoming Head Girl, Hatty Parry, reflected on the day: “The GLG Leadership Day gave us the chance to develop valuable leadership skills while strengthening our sense of unity as a team. The experience has left us feeling both inspired and excited for the year ahead!
“In the morning, Anne Groves (DAHS 1972), spoke about the importance of understanding our ‘authentic selves’ and how this awareness can contribute to building an effective team. Drawing on her broad experience in PR and management, she highlighted the importance of delegation and maintaining composure in difficult situations. Through interactive activities, such as pitching our strengths to one another and giving each other constructive feedback, we were encouraged to develop both our self-awareness and our ability to present ourselves with confidence.
“Our second alumna speaker of the day, Rachel Callan (BHS 1988), built on these ideas by exploring how we can complement one another’s skillsets to form a cohesive and effective team, and emphasised the importance of collaboration and celebration. She introduced us to different team roles, such as ‘communicators’ and ‘planners’, helping us to understand how our diverse personalities contribute to the team's overall effectiveness. I found her definition of ‘teamwork’ most interesting- ‘teams are the sum of their parts and make space for everyone to demonstrate their strengths’, demonstrating the vitality of cooperation to a team's success.
“Following this, we had the opportunity to brainstorm potential GLG campaign ideas as a group, putting our new skills to the test! The collaborative session allowed us to consider how different initiatives could be supported through our individual roles within the GLG. Our discussion was highly productive, leaving us all incredibly excited for the year ahead!
“Lunchtime was another highlight of the day, as we were all delighted to have the opportunity to speak with Mrs Gibson and other staff members about our aspirations, ideas and any challenges we anticipate in our roles. This was accompanied by a thoughtfully prepared selection of refreshments, which made the occasion all the more special!
“The day concluded with an after-school reception attended by parents and the outgoing GLG. The incoming team were given the opportunity to connect with outgoing captains, gaining insightful advice as we prepare to take on our new responsibilities.
“We greatly appreciate the efforts made by all staff involved in making the day run so smoothly. It’s safe to say that the day was a great success!”
