Always a showstopper, House Talent remains one of the key highlights of the year, engaging every student from Year 3 through to the Upper Sixth.
One of the main goals for each House is to secure the coveted Cup for the best House Song. Alongside this, Cups are also awarded for the Best Junior and Senior acts.
This year, 23 acts reached the Finals and on Tuesday 2nd December the entire school came together for an afternoon of performances in the Assembly Hall. Each House showcased their House Song in front of an appreciative audience. Both staff and students had been waiting with bated breath to learn the results, which were announced in the Whole School assembly on Thursday.
During the event there was a touch of light-hearted humour from Mrs Hudson Findley, Director of Digital Learning, Enterprise and Sustainability, and Mr Gibson, Senior Sixth Form Tutor, adding to the atmosphere in the Hall.
In the Junior category, Anna Farley, Year 4, Hepburn, performed a humorous stand up comedy piece with puppets, and Emilia Breeze, Year 6, Franklin, played the piano with confidence and poise. Both received Highly Commended awards. In the end the judges, former BGS Head of Dance Mrs Winter and Headmistress Mrs Gibson, awarded first place to Aria Tattle, Year 4, Nightingale, who completed a hula hoop routine while balancing and moving across the stage on an electric hoverboard accompanied by music.
The Senior competition was equally competitive. Notable mentions include Mia Vadgama, Upper Sixth, Chanel, for her rendition of Jolene by Dolly Parton, and The Von Hepburn Ensemble for their interpretation of Raindrops on Roses. Both received Highly Commended awards. First place was awarded to Naya Prabhu, Year 8, Parks, for her expressive solo Indian dance.
The House Songs remain at the heart of House Talent, with every member of each House taking part. All performances were impressive, and Franklin emerged victorious with their lively performance of This is Me from The Greatest Showman.
A big round of applause to everyone who took part.
