Junior School Music

By Mrs Parsons (Deputy Director of Music)

On Tuesday 12th March, members of the Junior Orchestra were lucky enough to be able to attend a concert by the fabulous Philharmonia, who are the resident orchestra of the Royal Festival Hall.

Playing at the Bedford Corn Exchange, they performed an exciting programme of music both by American composers and inspired by American music, including Dvorak’s New World Symphony and Scott Joplin’s The Entertainer.

The girls were invited to take part in performing an original composition Is This the Place that I Call Home by the London based composer Aga Serugo-Lugo, who was also present at the concert to listen to his work! This lunchtime concert ended with a rousing performance of Pirates of the Caribbean which delighted the BGS orchestra and sent everyone back to school with a big smile, whilst also giving the girls a taste of what a world class orchestra sounds like.

What a brilliant way to spend lunchtime!
