Junior School

By Mrs Thomas (Year 3 Teacher)

As part of Year 3’s Unit of Inquiry looking at the factors that influence buildings and structures, the girls had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a hands-on learning experience led by Mrs Redfern (The Head of Design and Technology).

Under Mrs Redfern’s guidance, the girls investigated the intricate world of joining materials, utilising their fine motor skills and working with focus and enthusiasm. From crafting flaps to stitching bolsters, and making flanges and slots to join materials, their engagement was evident as they explored and tested out various techniques and joins.

These skills form the basis for an engaging upcoming end-of-unit project, during which the girls will design their own building in a community of their choosing. This task will encourage their creativity and encourage them to think innovatively as they tackle the challenges of architectural design, aiming to create something meaningful and unique for a specific community.
