Junior School

By Abbi (6I) and Naya (6I) - Members of the Gardening Club.

This term, in the Junior School gardening club, we have been building recycled planters.

The materials that we used were: bamboo, wood, string and Empty milk cartons.

We started off by tying three sticks of bamboo together, with string, to create a pyramid like structure. Then we attached the wooden sticks to the three sides of the bamboo pyramid, connecting them all together to strengthen the structure. After that, we cut the milk cartons in a U shape at the top, creating a pot that can be used for planting seeds and bulbs.

We then tied the handles of them to each of the three sticks of bamboo. Learning how to do this activity helped us to understand how we can reuse everyday objects, to create something extremely useful, like planters.

Next week we are going to plant the planters and put them in the Junior School gardens for everyone to enjoy!
