By Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6)

Last week, Year 6 took part in an exciting Money Matters workshop. This session aimed to enhance their understanding of money management, complementing our PSHE curriculum.

During the workshop, each girl received a hypothetical £500 to manage throughout the activities. They participated in various games, each offering lessons on budgeting, saving, investing and understanding risk and reward.

The workshop featured a range of games with different risk-reward dynamics. Some were high-risk with potentially high rewards, while others emphasised hard work and prudent decision-making. This allowed the girls to explore different approaches to managing money in a controlled setting.

Throughout the session, the year group learned practical skills such as budgeting, identifying saving opportunities and evaluating financial choices. They also developed critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, applying theoretical concepts to real-life scenarios.

The enthusiasm shown by Year 6 during the workshop was brilliant – some being very careful with spending their money whereas others showing their competitive side over who could make the most profit during the session!  These foundational skills will undoubtedly benefit them as they grow and become more financially independent.
