Open Morning Community

We were delighted to open our doors to the public on Saturday 7th October for the Whole School Open Morning.

It was wonderful to welcome current and prospective families to the school to get a feel for what life is like at BGS.

With Headmistress, Mrs Gibson and Tash Miller, Head Girl getting the morning off to an exciting start in the Senior School Assembly Hall, students and staff then proceeded to do a brilliant job of giving visitors a tour of the school.

The school was full of energy and excitement with all departments demonstrating a plethora of activities including a whole range of sports to try in the Sports Hall; immersive VR in the LRC; fun science experiments in the labs and students showcasing their creativity in the Art and Textiles department...

In the Drama and Dance department, rehearsals were in full swing as our Year 9 students prepared for the Act!'23 Festival. They were enthusiastically crafting their performance, drawing inspiration from the captivating world of Penny Dreadful. Meanwhile, our Divergent Dance Company was mastering and presenting Alvin Ailey's Revelations focusing on the poignant section featuring the song Wade in the Water. Over in the Studio Theatre, a dedicated group of students from our Daisy Pulls It Off cast were honing their skills in character development.

Meanwhile in the newly renovated Sixth Form Common Room, now known as The Hub, Director of Sixth Form, Mrs Woolley, and her team chatted to potential Sixth Form families, discussing options and aspirations. Families also got to sample delicious treats in the new Chequers Café.

Over in the Junior School our Years 4, 5 and 6 students were fantastic tour guides, encouraging prospective pupils to try out many activities. Inside the Science Lab, our younger visitors embraced Lego STEM challenges, guided by our Year 4 mentors. Additionally, an engaging marshmallow and cocktail stick experiment allowed guests to discover and monitor their pulse rates.

The visitors then listened to presentations delivered by the Head of the Junior School, Mrs Howe and two of the Junior School Ambassadors, Aarna and Sarah in Year 6.

During the morning, visitors also enjoyed musical performances from our talented students at various points of the school – they really added to the vibrant atmosphere.
